Access to Clean Water

The Kidera Primary School and the immediate neighbouring households rely on one borehole in the school compound to get clean and safe drinking water. The borehole oftentimes breaks down due to the large population that uses it. In the Global Grant project Kidera - Adopt a Village rain water harvest tanks to serve the over 1,300 student were provided. 18 water tanks with a volume of 10,000 or 5,000 litres, were constructed at the school and 6 water tanks have been installed at the Panyangasi Health Centre III. Rainwater collection pipes were also set up.

Training courses are held to raise awareness of water management. Regular checks of the water tanks must be carried out. A training course on repair and maintenance was held in January 2025 by Rtn. Jozeph Ndegeya (RC Gaba). Teachers and students were also trained on how to properly clean the water tanks during the dry season.

In April 2025, Doris and Judith were able to hand over a water filter from 3M, donated by Wellwasser Technology GmbH (Austria), for a water tank at the Panyangasi Health Centre III. This makes it possible to supply patients with clean water and to use the purified water as drinking water.

If this purification method proves successful, further filters will be provided.
