Buffalo Bicycles
The journey from Kidera Primary School to the school farm is long, especially with tools, harvests and heavy loads. That's why Rtn. Raimund Stanger (RC Kitzbühel) had the idea of donating Buffalo Bicycles. 25 robust Buffalo Bicycles have been delivered to the school in April 2024 – the use of these 25 bikes seems sensible and the bikes are well maintained.
A lockable shelter needed to be built to store the bikes safely. Rotaract Kitzbühel - under the leadership of Kevin Pessenteiner and Jana Köck - collected donations to build this shelter. Kevin would like to take this opportunity to explicitly thank the young team for their great cooperation and team spirit of Rotaract Kitzbühel.
The construction was organised by Rtn. Ing. Denis Okatch (RC Tororo - Sam Owori) and was officially opened on the 16th of April 2024. The securing, extension for storage and maintenance and completion of the shelter is organised and supervised by Rtn. Emmanuel Ofumbi (RC Tororo - Sam Owori).
In April 2025, another 50 Buffalo Bicycles were purchased through a Rotary District Grant (RC Kitzbühel, District 1920) and funding for monthly service/repair and training of the pupils by Mr Astaluke Oketcho, including spare parts, was secured for two years. Many thanks to Rtn. Hans Philipp and Rtn. Raimund Stanger and RC Kitzbühel.
Another 10 Buffalo Bicycles were donated by World Bicycle Relief. The handling and control is carried out by the Kidera Development Foundation Ltd (KDF) - under the direction of Rtn. Emmanuel Ofumbi - will be carried out.
In May 2025, 60 more bicycles will be handed over to Kidera Primary School, so that a total of 85 bicycles are now available for travelling and transport between school and farm - for pupils, teachers and the School Management Committee (SMC).
