Sam Owori Skilling Hub in Tororo

The Global Grant Project (GG2462154) ‘The Establishment of the Sam Owori Centre for Skills Development in Tororo’ was approved by The Rotary Foundation and started in November 2024. The host Club is RC of Kampala and international partner is RC Innsbruck Alpin, managed by Rtn. Dr. Doris Steinmüller-Nethl.

The project is carried out in close cooperation with Rtn. Judith Köck (RC Kitzbühel) and the cooperation partners: HFHU, PERI, Start Somewhere, PACODEF and TYIPD.

The Sam Owori Skills Development Center is named in honour of the late Rotary International President-Elect Sam Owori and will be situated in Tororo Municipality. The land has been offered by the Zefania and Mary Ochieng Trust. The project will offer training to the youth in different areas, starting with brickmaking using the new TwistBlock technology

The Center will promote low cost house construction technologies and the training is focussed on economic empowerment, vocational skilling – man and women – in future: tailoring, electronics, repair of BodaBoda etc. - all with the aim of creation of jobs.

The Global Grant project was launched by Rotary International President Stephanie Urchick on 7th of January 2025 in Kampala together with RC Kampala and Rtn. Stephen Owori.

The preparation of the training center, workshop, storage of moulds and equipment in containers, etc. was completed in September 2025 and the recruitment of youth has started.

The Sam Owori Skilling Hub in Tororo was officially launched on 18 December 2025 Her Excellency the Vice President of Uganda, Maj. (Rtd.) Jessica Alupo. See NEWS.
